Leyenda Ballet Folklorico

Children class is for kids age 7 or more. We feel that folklorico dance is complex. The student should know what their left and right is.

Students should have the following skills:

Willingness to learn and to practice at home, focus, attention, memorization skills, concept of what is a straight line, concept of moving at the “BEAT” of the song.

A beginner child who has these attributes can learn very steadily and quick. Folklorico dancing is about repetition, consistency, cardiovascular stamina, endurance and the will to cultivate good fitness as folklorico is a dance sport.

Class wardrobe is solid black. No stripes or logos. (Unless is the Leyenda T-shirt). Shoes: Black Chunky Heel Jazz sneakers with one inch heel for class. & Red Character shoes that have no nails on the bottom are used for shows.

Wardrobe for shows: Parents purchase wardrobe when they feel ready. Same wardrobe is used for years. Parents usually get 3 dresses for girls, and 3 wardrobes for Boys.

The kids learn team work, stage presence, posture, choreography and they utilize this to interpret the dances they learn in shows.

Tuition is due the beginning of each month. We take Zelle, check or cash. We highly encourage Zelle because it gives you an electronic receipt and it is free for you to use and allows for you to set a monthly recurring payment. Tuition is $60 per month. If someone is late to pay tuition which is by the 7th of each month then the tuition is $70. Moreover, theTuition is month to month like a Gym membership or a cell phone bill whether you miss a month due to vacations you pay for each month. If you quit and come back months later there is a registration fee of $60. Per student.

Both take classes together but when it comes to shows, the students are selected to go to shows that match their level of readiness. This is generally the age range that goes to Red carpet galas, concerts, music videos, international travel, corporate, social events, parties etc. Students start with easier shows like parties and earn by skill level to be in the top notch shows as they learn accuracy of footsteps, posture, stage presence, facial projection, character interpretation, dramatization, dance-acting, movement uniformity, synchronization, timing steps at the beat of the music, team-work and team spirit, technique, theatrical protocol, our make-up style, our dances and our repertoire.

A student in this category whether beginner or with previous experience should have willingness to learn, be consistent, committed and to practice at home. Students should have cardiovascular stamina. Classes are at least 2 hours of CARDIO. Folklorico is all about repetition, stamina, endurance, memorization, and if you love dancing or love to learn, you will discover the friendly vibe of our team. Here in Leyenda, everyone helps each other. Our teams know that together we “go places”. Don’t be afraid to join. Just be consistent and practice at home diligently. Students should reside within 25 miles from the studio. Reason is because the purpose of learning is to practice dance knowledge in shows. If you live too far or won’t drive to shows because you live too far is like being in football and not playing. Makes no sense. Right? For this reason also we ask that students perform at least once a month.

Performance Show wardrobe is provided by LEYENDA Ballet Folklorico. You arrive to the show and wardrobe will be there.

Women: You need to have your own shoes, bloomers, necklaces, trenzas. (Some trenzas I provide), rebozo, fans, earrings.

Males: You need to have your own shoes, Belt with metal belt buckle, white pants, bandana, Machetes. (Ask me about these details)

Since these teams are always in the creative process of show after show. The pressure for responsibility, reliability and just getting shows ready can cause nervousness… attitude… complaining and other anti-team behavior. We ask that you maintain a respectful, positive attitude. Everything works itself out at the end. LEYENDA BALLET FOLKLORICO is been around since 2005 and we always pull through our commitments. During class we ask for your attention, no chit-chatting, be respectful and when water-break is over, come back to your dance “spot” don’t make the instructor wait. If you have questions, don’t ask your neighbor student because you’re creating chit-chat distraction that causes us to loose and waste time in the class. Save your question and ask me via text, email or our group chat. Trust the process. As mentioned, the group is friendly, uplifting and you will be fine. These rules are so we keep the group nice and no toxic vibes infiltrate the unity of the group or any weird agendas.

Students in this class are fit. They know countless dances or have experience to join in and follow a fast paced teaching environment. They are vibrant, positive thinkers and they are very dedicated. They take their class very seriously. They practice at home. They perform in the top tier shows and artistic projects we have. You see them in Red carpets, music videos, movies, Galas, Conventions or concerts as back up dancers and also International shows. Yet,.. Joining this class is like joining a club of people that love what you love and you will feel connected in friendship and camaraderie.Students have to be willing to sustain 2 hours or CARDIO or more of pretty much non stop dancing except when I’m explaining something. In this class the majority of these students WANT to perform. Therefore, if you’re joining, please be consistent and committed. Try a month and see how you like it. Folklorico is about repetition, repetition, repetition, memorization, memorization, memorization, but “will power” and passion will get you through it including stamina and cardio.
